There are several nice lakes within hour drive or more from our fly shop in the Mt. Hood National Forest that we fish and guide on. Including Timothy Lake, Clear Lake, Trillium Lake and Harriet Lake. These lakes a great outing coming out of Portland or the camp for a day, and make for a great addition to an itinerary, that included a float on the Deschutes and maybe an outing to the Crooked River to get the full tour!
These lakes are very scenic, the challenge is keeping your eye on the fly, while stealing gazes at the Mount Hood volcano that looms large above.
The lakes hold both stocked rainbow trout (with holdovers that can grow large) and native and wild rainbow, brook trout, and cutthroat trout populations.
We fish the lakes out of drift boats, pontoon and kick boats, and even just wade fish some. These are a great option in the middle of summer, when the heat sets in and while being on the river is not a bad option, getting up on an Alpine lake is even a better one!
